Breeding - Our Aims |
Hakuna Matata rattery believes that all animals should be pets, first and foremost. We primarily breed for health and temperament, followed by appearance (type and colour). Any rat who is not of the personality we choose for our line, or any rat who has had health problems, will not be bred from. |
|
We keep records of all the rats we have bred, and so throughout a rats life, you will be expected to update us on them, requests will be sent out for updates, however it's always nice to recieve them without prompting! We use Breeders Assistant to keep all our records, produce pedigrees and rat sale agreements. |
|
We are currently breeding for Ruby and Black Eyed Siamese, Russian Burmese and Russian Sable. In top eared and dumbo, rex and smooth. We will occasionally have other varieties, including Silvered Blacks and Russian Blues. |
|
Hakuna Matata Rattery does not condone the unneccesary practice of culling, adults or kittens. Should an unwell rat need to be put to sleep, it will be done humanely by a trained veterinarian. All sick rats are treated to the best of our knowledge. |
Our Homing Policies |
1. All potential owners are asked to fill in an application form. This is to enable me to get to know new owners quickly, with so many potential owners emailing on a daily basis, it's easier to have a set of specific questions to start off. I am always happy to discuss my own breeding ethics with new owners. |
2. I keep a waiting list of new owners, this enables me to home rats on a first come first served basis, and means I know all rats will be guaranteed a good home before they are born. This also means that I don't always have rats available straight away, but please don't hesitate to contact in an emergency (e.g. lone rats). |
| 3. All owners are asked to sign a contract on the purchase of their new kittens. A copy can be emailed in advance to be read over. All contracts are Pet Only, unless previously discussed. |
| 4. In the event of a rat no longer being able to stay at their new home, they must be returned to myself. I will then decide whether the best option would be to find them a new home, or to keep them here permenantly. |
